Radical Premayak
(A Radical Love)

Radical Premayak (A Radical Love) is a thought-provoking stage drama that delves into the unconventional and transformative power of love. Written and directed by Dulan Weerasinghe, a lawyer by profession and a passionate theatre artist, the play challenges audiences to rethink the very meaning of love — portraying it not merely as romance, but as a radical act of acceptance, selflessness, and humanity.

Originally produced in 2016 using Greek theatre techniques, Radical Premayak returns to the stage in a brand-new production featuring fresh interpretations, new cast members, and updated dramatic elements. The play’s themes bridge tradition and modernity, combining experimental theatre with powerful emotional depth.

With a dynamic cast including Chanu Dissanayaka, Sudeeksha Samadhi, and others, Radical Premayak captures the complexities of love in all its forms — challenging social norms, questioning expectations, and inspiring introspection.

Radical Premayak has achieved remarkable recognition across Sri Lanka’s national and regional theatre festivals. The original 2016 production triumphed at the North Western State Drama Festival, winning 13 awards including Best Production of the Year. Continuing its legacy, the 2023 revival secured major national accolades — at the National Youth Awards 2023, it won Best Actress, the Jury Award for Best Production of the Year, and several Acting Merits. The play also shone at the State Drama Festival 2023, earning Best Makeup, Best Set Design, and Acting Merits, reaching the finals in both national competitions.

This award-winning production, staged at the Elphinstone Theatre, continues to captivate audiences with its fearless storytelling, rich visuals, and deeply human message.
